Tirana International Airport Mother Teresa is roughly 16 km to the north-west. The cheapest transfer is the Rinas Express bus, which leaves from bays 9 and 10 just outside arrivals, runs about hourly in each direction and costs around 400 lek; you buy the ticket on board and can pay in lek or euros, cash or card. It stops beside Skanderbeg Square, an eight-minute walk from the hotel. Allow thirty to forty-five minutes, up to an hour at rush hour. Taxis and the local ride-hailing apps cover the same route door to door. If you drive, private parking is available on site for a fee, and a paid airport shuttle can be arranged through the hotel.
Almost everything worth seeing in Tirana is within a twenty-minute walk. The House of Leaves, the former secret-police surveillance headquarters and European Museum of the Year in 2020, is barely 140 metres away; the National Museum of History, under its huge mosaic facade, and Skanderbeg Square are both around 400 metres. Rinia Park, Sheshi Paris and the National Gallery of Arts fill the streets in between, and the Clock Tower and the Et'hem Bey Mosque sit on the square itself. Blloku, the district once reserved for party officials and now the city's cafe and nightlife quarter, is ten minutes south, while the New Bazaar to the north-east is the best place for a slow lunch and Albanian produce. Set aside half a day for Bunk'Art 1, the vast cold-war bunker at the foot of Mount Dajti, and take the Dajti Ekspres cable car for the view back over the city. Spring and autumn are the pleasantest months for walking; July and August are hot and dusty.
